My reading list until the end of the year: NOTHING.

I read a lot of books. As of today, I have finished 68 books this year. That’s a whole lot of reading. Most of the books I read this year are personal development books, which I have been devouring for my own pleasure and for my own growth, but also as resources for my work.

I made a decision yesterday not to read any more books in 2018.

This – for someone who loves reading as much as I do – was not an easy decision to make.

Here’s why I made this decision. In my excitement to read every book I could get my hands on that is related to what I am extremely passionate about, I realized that I am not absorbing the content as much as I could. Jumping from one book to the next, while satisfying in that it answers many of my burning questions, has left my mind a little scattered. I have so many thoughts and ideas inside my mind, but I can’t recall where I read what, and who said what, and which book refers to what.

Some books stood out more than others of course, and my knowledge has expanded immeasurably, which I am grateful for. BUT, I am being unfair to the authors I follow and to the books I so lovingly consume.

The richness of the content of these books should be better appreciated, like a fine meal. Instead, I have gulped them down like junk food.

Does this mean I won’t be reading until the end of the year? Hell no! Of course I will be reading (I will go crazy otherwise, and will drive everyone around me crazy too, especially my husband). What I will be reading though are the SAME books. Again. Cover to cover.

I will appreciate every word. I will take notes. I will reflect more deeply. And then, I will do it all over again.

Our subconscious minds learn most through repetition. So I plan on programming my subconscious mind with this rich and valuable content. No more junk food for thought. I am going five stars all way.
